Another iseaki series where a guy was a fairly nasty guy in his real life, and then through some twist of fate is sucked into another world and decides to become a good guy.
I tried had to like this series, and listened to 4 of the books. I finished the fourth book while on a long flight.
Things I liked about the book series:
- It’s a light read
- Potential for an epic adventure
- MC genuinely wants to do the right thing and fight against injustice if he sees it
Things that took away from it:
- Potential for an epic adventure… but that adventure ends quickly and on to something else. Author can’t stick with an interesting person or story for more than a few pages.
- Writing was not that great
- Being given legendary gifts by a “god-like” person, a sword and a shield, and then immediately losing those gifts… and not caring.
- MC meets a God (or another god-like person), gets some special powers, a new tattoo from it, and then mentions it to no one.
- The MC buying out indentured servants contracts for insane amounts of money, and immediately saying “I’m releasing you from your debt, you’re free to go if you want”, and 99% of them leave. Then the MC is broke again with only one or two people willing to come to his new town.
I can’t continue with this series. The MC isn’t acting rationally. If he “wins” in the end, he won’t deserve that win.
