The Wandering Inn, Book 1

3 stars. I really wanted to like this. I might come back to it later.

I heard good things about this series, called The Wandering Inn. When people in groups were recommending books, it would often be mentioned. Not as much as He Who Fights With Monsters, or Defiance of the Fall, but it was in the top 10 or 20 of books mentioned.

I couldn’t quite get into it.

There were moments, for sure. So I persisted for quite a bit. But I’ve had to put the book aside.

I can’t put my finger on why.

One thing I’d say is that there doesn’t seem to be a well-established levelling system. The Innkeeper seems to gain levels of her profession overnight. But why? What did she specifically do to gain a level? What does she get from gaining levels?

There might be some magic system later in the book, but 6 hours into the book, I haven’t discovered it yet.

The characters seem like they might be interesting. Most of them still needed to develop.

I might return to this one day. But I’ve found a book that seems entertaining for now.
