System Universe, Books 1-7

5 stars for the first four books. I found myself drawn into the characters and caring about how their story progressed.

Derek was fighting alongside some magic users on Earth, and an accident trapped him inside a wormhole between worlds.

Inside this wormhole, he was alone. Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months and years. Out of boredom, he decided that all he could do was train. I can’t remember how much time passed, but it was years being trapped alone.

Suddenly, he found a way out of this wormhole and he found himself on a new world. There were people and creatures that he didn’t recognize. And he was way more powerful than most of the people he encountered there. He met a boy in the woods, and that boy led him back to his town. When he got back to the town, the town was under attack by some bad people, and Derek single-handedly took them out.

Things I liked about the book series:

  • I liked the main character Derek, and the characters he choose to hang out with
  • He has a good character, and generally helps people if he can
  • The book was well-written and had touches of humor
  • The character continues to become overpowered, gaining a ridiculous list of skills and accomplishments

Things that took away from it:

  • He chose a bunny rabbit as his bonded companion
  • That bunny rabbit becomes stronger than the main character, and is sometimes called a murder bunny
  • That bunny rabbit decided to focus on her passion for cooking and becomes a chef
  • All of the friends/companions that he accumulates in the first few books (including the rabbit) disappear into the background in later books

The first four books were incredible. I recommend the first four books.

Book 5 was a bit boring for me, as Derek went into a useless “dungeon” and didn’t even do much inside. And book 6, sadly, continues the trend as the MC “one shot kills” an entire opposing army, kings, and dukes. Again, not much is going on. There’s not much progression for him or his friends. We hardly even see his friends.

Book 7 definitely took him out of the dungeon and away from the wars, and I could tell that the author was really trying to reintroduce his friends. We got to see a bit of Thomas (the boy away at school), Brandy (the girl learning to be a craftsman), and some other friends. He goes with Alana back to her home continent and has some more adventures away from home. Book 7 was a palate cleanser.

Hopefully, the next book introduces something exciting and new. Maybe he goes back to Earth?
