5 stars. Will Wight knows how to write.
I picked up another series from one of my favorite authors, Will Wight who wrote Cradle.
In this book, the MC is a mage in a magical universe. He uses a once in a lifetime chance to accumulate the powers (and lifetimes) of 5 other mages plus himself. He then becomes a solo crusader, saving the universe from bad guys. Some powerful people are trying to catch him to use his powers for himself, so he’s always on the run.
Of course, there’s more. Eventually, he is forced to work with others and assembles a rag-tag crew of powerful fighters to work by his side in fighting bad guys.
I like the book so far.
What I like:
- The MC has good motives, as does his crewmates
- He seems to act rationally most times
- He recognizes his limitations are as a mage and not an all-around fighter
- The ship’s AI (sorry, it’s a spirit) has unknown motives, which is an interesting twist
- The bad guys are, so far, purely evil
Anyways, I recommend this book if you liked Cradle. Will Wight is a great writer, and Travis Baldree is awesome as narrator.
