Solo Leveling, the Anime

5 stars. I wish there were more LitRPG anime series.

There is a fairly popular book called Solo Leveling that I intend to read one day.

But in the mean time, I turned on the anime cartoon that has been made from that book, and so far so good.

I can’t believe I’m watching an anime in Japanese (with English subtitles) in 2024, but here I am. The quality is good, and the story has my attention. The music really adds to the experience too.

Solo Leveling is about a guy often called the weakest “hunter” in the world. He’s fairly immediately thrown into an extreme circumstance against an extremely powerful opponent. As you can predict, he manages to escape the first extremely powerful challenge alive, and gains a powerful ability to improve his skills, when no one else in the world can improve theirs.

(The alternative translation of the title is “Only I Level Up”, which also gives it away.)

The main problem, perhaps, is that they are releasing only one episode per week. So you can easily watch the ten 20-minute episodes that are out, and then have to wait for the next episode. I also had to sign up to paid suscription to Crunchroll to watch after the first few episodes.

The anime is good. Worth the time to watch.
