Things I Like #5: Re-reading My Favorite Series

He Who Fights with Monsters Book 11 just came out.

But before reading it, I feel like I need a reminder of why I like this series so much. So I decided to re-read it.

I was able to read the first 3 books in 3 or 4 days. I listen to the books on Audible at an accelerated speed, and I was able to go a bit faster since I had listened to them already.

That series is SO GOOD. The first three books slowly introduce the main character (the famous Jason Asano). And then he gets 3 friends. And slowly over time, more characters are introduced.

I don’t think this is a spoiler, but you’ve been warned. Here goes.

Books 4-6 take place “back on Earth”. Jason returns home to his family, and we get to see a whole new world and a whole new cast of characters. This is somewhat clever too, as it allows readers to take a break from many of the main characters (all his Palimustus friends) and get to meet new characters.

By Book 7, he’s left Earth and back in Palimustus. And he brings a couple of his Earth friends with him.

I fear that I will be tired of the character and the series by the time I get finish all the way to Book 10. I might just skip some of the in-between books to go straight to 9 and 10.

I really like re-reading my favorite series sometimes. Usually before reading the latest book in that series. But sometimes, just when I can’t find anything else to read.
