Speedrunning the Multiverse, Book 1

4.5 stars. I like the anti-hero.

The premise is pretty clever. A time-travelling Godking is so old and so bored, that he spends his time repeatedly racing to go from completely powerless to the most powerful being in the multiverse as quickly as possible. It takes more than five hundred years to complete a “speedrun” of this feat. He does it over and over again (over 95 attempts so far). And after each attempt, he takes a little break and starts over, trying to beat his own time.

For his 97th attempt, we join the MC as he once again starts from a completely powerless being with no magic and no power, and “speedruns” to get to peak power again.

The premise is interesting, and so far, the writing is good too.

Things I like about the book:

  • The MC is not a Lawful-Good character; acts nice to get what he wants
  • Book moves fast
  • Introduces new characters and scenes to keep it interesting
  • Does seem to care about some of the characters, even though (as a reincarnated God) he doesn’t have to

Things that could be improved:

  • The MC goes from the weakest of the tribe to the strongest in about 2 weeks
